Delivery service offering FREE Lurpak with orders as price of some butter surges to £9

The cost of living crisis has struck again, and this time, the nation’s beloved butter brand Lurpak has been hit. Shoppers have been shocked by the price of the popular dairy spread which has been spotted on supermarket shelves for as much as £9.

And despite Manchester Evening News’ Ben Arnold having a go at making his own butter at home, it’s simply as efficient or cost effective as buying a pack from the supermarket.

In the wake of this news and soaring supermarket prices, grocery delivery service Getir are giving away free Lurpak butter in Manchester to ‘spread’ the love, while highlighting the very real issue that is the cost of living chaos.

Shoppers can go on the app and get a free tub of Lurpak butter delivered straight to their door when they spend a minimum of £20. The offer launched at 1pm and is available while stocks last, so you better be quick.

Kristoff van Beveren, GM at Getir UK, says, "We at Getir want to make sure the nation isn't deprived of butter on their toast in the morning so we are making our current stock of Lurpak butter free when you spend £20 until stocks last. It's the only Lurpak offer available in the UK right now that wont break the bank! It's part of our ongoing commitment to give our customers value up and down the country."

According to the BBC, Lurpak has suggested the eye-watering price rises are to ensure that dairy farmers get a fair deal. A statement from Lurpak's owner Arla Foods said: "We understand that recent inflation in food price is hitting many households really hard right now.

"Unfortunately, our farmers are facing a similar situation with prices for the feed, fertiliser and fuel they need to produce milk, all rising significantly in recent months. While we don't set the prices on the shelves, we do work closely with the retailers to ensure our farmers receive a fair price for the milk they produce."
