Delhi’s women gig workers are battling far more than the punishing heat

In Delhi’s blistering summer, when temperatures soar past 45°C, most of us tap an app from the comfort of our air-conditioned rooms. Minutes later, the doorbell rings. Your favourite meal has arrived. A beautician comes home to make life easier. A domestic worker helps keep your routine running smoothly.

This report tells the story of women gig workers who are battling far more than the punishing heat. They are navigating a system that offers little compassion and even less support. Gig work is difficult for everyone, but for women it becomes a very different kind of struggle – one shaped by both biological realities and social expectations.

Between locked doors, unanswered calls, and relentless delivery targets, many of these women do not even have the basic dignity of taking a break or finding a toilet.
