NEW DELHI: Environment minister Gopal Rai said the Delhi government had started preparing a winter action plan for the city to be better prepared to deal with the upcoming pollution cycle.
Rai said he would chair a joint meeting with officials of the environment and forest departments, and Delhi Pollution Control Committee on Thursday to draft the winter action plan.
"Within Delhi, numerous organisations with various functions work to eliminate pollution. In this context, a high-level meeting will be convened with officials on August 25," the minister said. "The upcoming winter's action plan will be drafted in light of the pollution cycle. The government will work actively on it in the coming days. The Delhi government will launch many campaigns to reduce pollution on the basis of this."
He further said that during the meeting, steps taken by the agencies over the previous year to reduce pollution would also be reviewed. Officials will also review the number of Green app complaints and the departments responding swiftly to those complaints.
"With several factors, including dust, vehicle pollution and stubble burning contributing to it, Delhi-NCR may experience a considerable increase in air pollution throughout the winter. We will launch campaigns through the winter action plan to help Delhi residents get rid of pollution," Rai added.
