NOIDA: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heatwave conditions for the next two to three days in Delhi-NCR. Noida will witness a rise in maximum temperature by nearly two degrees.
On Saturday, Noida recorded 44.5 degrees Celsius maximum temperature and 25.4 degrees Celsius minimum temperature. On Friday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were 43.5 and 25.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
According to the IMD, a heatwave is a condition of air temperature which becomes fatal to the human body when exposed. A heatwave is when the maximum temperature reaches at least 40 degrees Celsius or more in the plains and at least 30 degrees or more in the hills.
Dr D K Gupta, the chairman of Felix Hospital in Sector 137, said that the upcoming temperature rise might lead to dehydration and sunburns. “People complain about symptoms like nausea, vomiting and loose motion due to dehydration in this season. Temperature rise also leads to sunburns and heatstrokes if a person is outdoors and exposed for a longer period,” he said.
He said that people, especially those who work outdoors, need to take precautions. They should also wear full-sleeve shirts, use umbrellas when going out, and drink fluids to keep themselves hydrated.
Meanwhile, parts of Delhi already experienced heatwaves on Saturday as the daytime temperature soared and reached over 47 degrees Celsius. According to the weather department, the heatwave is likely to continue on Sunday. The minimum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 28.7 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season’s average.
“The clear sky and dry weather led to heatwaves in isolated areas of the city. The maximum temperature on Sunday is likely to hover around 43 degrees Celsius,” started a statement from IMD.
