Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia urges teachers to join mentor programme

NEW DELHI: The deputy chief minister and education minister Manish Sisodia has written a letter to the teachers of Delhi government schools to encourage them to be a part of the mentor programme.

He has asked them to be a part of the education revolution, especially at a time when Delhi government is in the process of developing a new curriculum for the schools with the Delhi Board of School Education and International Baccalaureate.

Mentor teacher was launched in 2016 by Sisodia to leverage the creative expertise of about 200 teachers in further strengthening the academic and pedagogic capacities of graduate teachers of DoE teaching up to Class X. The mentor teacher programme is designed to foster a culture of learning, sharing and collaboration through a community of practice.

“The Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) is working in collaboration with the world-renowned International Baccalaureate on an innovative method of evaluation. The curriculum for Delhi government schools is being revamped to equip children with 21st-century skills to give them a hands-on experience instead of rote learning. Mentors will not only play a vital role in preparing its structure, but also in developing it completely and making it accessible to every child,” said Sisodia.

The minister has also added that if they want to get out of their comfort zone, then they should join the programme.

In the letter, Sisodia says, “The programme’s objective is to give a platform to our teachers from where they can learn and understand the unique methods and innovations of teaching and learning being adopted all over the world.”

This is the fifth batch of mentor teachers being inducted in two years. Teachers can submit their online applications by June 20.
