Dejan Lovren hands Liverpool huge boost in Premier League title race

Dejan Lovren has handed Jurgen Klopp a huge boost in Liverpool's Premier League title battle with Manchester City .

Centre back Lovren had been sidelined since he limped out of the Reds' FA Cup defeat to Wolves on January 7.

But after over two and a half months without any game time, Lovren made his return to the pitch for Croatia against Hungary at the Groupama Arena in Budapest.

The 29-year-old managed to play the full 90 minutes of the Euro 2020 qualifier but couldn't help his nation to victory - as Adam Szalai and Mate Patkai netted to drown out Ante Rebic's early strike for the Croats.

Lovren returned to Liverpool training at the beginning of the month, two months to the day after suffering his hamstring injury.

He was included in Klopp's match day squad for the first time in the Reds' last fixture before the international break.

But Lovren was kept on the bench as Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table with a 4-2 victory over Burnley .

The former Southampton man's return to fitness is likely to hand Klopp some major selection headaches - with Joe Gomez also primed to complete his comeback.

Virgil van Dijk 'has more to his game than Rio Ferdinand'

Fellow centre back Gomez has been away from action since breaking his leg in December.

But like Lovren is ready to face Tottenham next weekend.

In the duo's absence Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip have formed a formidable partnership - with the former seen as completely undroppable.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is also expected to be fit to face Spurs despite pulling out of England's qualifiers against Czech Republic and Montenegro.

The right-back withdrew with a back issue but it isn't as severe as feared.

Meanwhile, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain iis hoping he will be making his long awaited comeback after almost a year's hell out with a knee injury.

The former Arsenal midfielder is in full-training and has appeared for the under 23s, where he suffered a hamstring tweak.
