Defender responds to €30m Nottingham Forest transfer interest

Espanyol defender Cesar Montes has responded to speculation linking him with a summer move to Nottingham Forest, with the centre-back ‘grateful’ for the links.

The 26-year-old only joined the Spanish team in the January transfer window, joining from Mexican outfit Monterrey in an €8 million deal. He signed a five-and-a-half year contract with Espanyol.

But it seems that it hasn’t put off the likes of Forest and Wolves who are said to be casting an eye over the centre-back. The player has impressed in his nine appearances in Spain so far, with clubs already circling for a potential deal to bring him to the Premier League.

Reports in Spain at the end of last month claim that both Forest and Wolves have already ‘asked’ about the Mexican international. LaGarda also report that the player has a €30 million release clause in his contract, with there being no chance of Espanyol lowering the asking price when the transfer window opens at the end of the season.

The player himself has now responded to the reported interest, revealing how he sees it as a compliment. But the 26-year-old has remained coy on his future, hinting that his concentration is fully on the here and now.

“These are signs that I am doing well, and I am grateful,” he said via Soy Football .

“I will continue along the path and if something comes, we will see in the future. It’s not something that distracts me personally.”

Montes and Espanyol are back in action this weekend as they take on Spanish giants Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. It’s a game which Forest chiefs may keep an eye on to see how the defender performs against the best players.
