Dee Walsh highlights sparring session that proves Belfast boxer's class

Trainer Dee Walsh has revealed how Owen O'Neill once dropped three different opponents during a sparring session - proving his boxer can adapt to any style inside the ring.

Unbeaten welterweight O'Neill returns to the ring on Saturday in Spain.

He travelled to Alicante on Thursday not knowing who his opponent even was before later discovering he will fight Petar Aleksandrov at the Guardamar Arena.

Walsh says it doesn't matter which opponent they put in front of his 25-year-old fighter.

"It is hard to say if Owen has improved the most out of everyone in the team, because everyone has improved so much," Walsh told Belfast Live.

"He trained the whole time during lockdown, and we will see how much he has improved come fight night.

"You only want to work with pros who work all year round, and Owen does that. You want to work with someone who wants to improve themselves."

Walsh added: "I remember one day four people came up to spar Owen, and he dropped three of them. So he can adapt. That's why I don't care who he fights.

"I want him to show how much he has improved, and I'd love him to get the stoppage."
