Declan Donnelly and family 'shaken' after thieves targeted £5m home while they slept

Saturday Night Takeaway star Declan Donnelly 's £5million home was targeted by professional thieves during the Easter weekend.

Burglars tried to break into Dec's West London home as he and his wife Ali, their daughter Isla and sausage dog Rocky slept upstairs .

The telly star and his family didn't realise until the early hours of the morning that something was amiss at the property.

Met police attended the property shortly before 1am to check things out just as the thieves left the house, following a 999 call.

It's understood the would be intruders did not gain access to the £5million sprawling mansion.

Police are investigating the incident and forensic squads were sent out to sweep the area for evidence.

They also gathered CCTV from the family home and their neighbours.

The Met Police released the following statement: “Police were called at approximately 00:40hrs to reports of an attempted burglary at a residential property.

“Officers attended. The suspects had left the scene prior to police arrival. There was no evidence that they had gained access to the property.

“Inquiries are ongoing. At this early stage, there have been no arrests.”

A source claimed that Dec and Ali were blissfully unaware of the almost break-in until the morning.

A source told The Sun: “The robbers couldn’t force the gates open and that’s what made them give up, and flee.

“Dec and Ali weren’t disturbed. The first they realised anything was amiss was in the morning.”

Workmen have since been spotted repairing the gates of the property and Lorraine presenter Cat Deeley sent a message of support to Dec and his family saying she was sending them 'all our love'.
