Debutant Lorcan Tucker becomes only second Irishman to hit Test century

NEW DELHI: Debutant Lorcan Tucker entered record books on Thursday as he became only the second Irishman to hit a Test century after Kevin O’Brien during the one-off Test against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

O’Brien scored 118 against Pakistan in 2018 during Ireland's maiden Test in Dublin. Tucker completed his century with a cover drive for four off left-arm spinner Taijul Islam.

The wicketkeeper-batter played a fine knock of 108 which came in 162 balls before becoming the victim of Ebadot Hossain, with Shoriful Islam taking the catch at extra cover.

The 26-year-old Tucker hit 14 fours and a six during his stay in the middle.

Tucker stitched two fine partnerships of 72 and 111 with Herry Tector and Andy McBrine after the visitors resumed on a precarious 27-4 in their second innings.

Tector's 56 also made him the first Irish cricketer to score half-centuries in both innings of a Test.
