TRANG: Two policemen and a man were sentenced to death -- and a police colonel and two others to life imprisonment -- for killing a 17-year-old boy in Songkhla province and dumping the body in Trang in September last year.

The Trang provincial court on Wednesday issued death sentences to Pol Sen Sgt Maj Anant Jankong, 48, of Songkhla, Pol Sen Sgt Maj Chaitawat Kittiwetworakul, 48, of Trang and Saknarin Onchuay, 30. Pol Col Ratrawee Chaichana, 48, his brother Wiwet Chaichana, 45, and Wichan Nuseekong, 53 were given life imprisonment.

They were found guilty of murdering and concealing the body of Narenrit Suwanno, 17, of Songkhla.

The teenage boy had climbed to the room of his girlfriend -- Wichan's daughter -- when the father and his associates caught and detained him. Then Wichan called his relative Pol Col Ratrawee, a superintendent in Yala province, who arrived with two other policemen.

The teenager was tied up, assaulted and then shot in the head. The six then transported the body from Thepha district in Songkhla to tambon Namphud in Trang's Muang district on the morning of Sept 26, 2017.

The body was dropped from a bridge into the Lamphura canal behind Wat Namphud. The life sentence was given to those found guilty only of concealing the body.

All the convicts had been jailed since Oct 11 as the court had rejected their requests for temporary release, citing the serious nature of the crime.
