Death of man in flat no longer believed to be suspicious as murder suspect released

The death of a man in a Manchester flat is no longer being treated as suspicious, with police releasing a murder suspect with no further action. Officers had initially been called to a flat on Graver Lane, Newton Heath, on Sunday afternoon (October 30) to a concern for the welfare of a man.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was pronounced dead a short time later. A male was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene however following a post-mortem, detectives now believe there are no suspicious circumstances around his death, and have released him.

Forensics were pictured at the scene on Sunday evening, as the entrance to the flats were taped off. Multiple officers were stationed at the scene as enquiries were carried out.

Investigators are still continuing to establish the circumstances around the man's death, with formal identification not yet having taken place. Police say they are working to identify his next of kin, with his family not believed to be living in the UK. A file is being prepared for the coroner.

Detective Inspector Rob Kennedy, of Central Park CID, said: “We’ve been keeping an open mind and following all available lines of enquiry ever since the man’s tragic passing on Sunday afternoon, which we are no longer treating as suspicious given the findings of the pathologist.

“Our priority is to inform the man’s family who don’t live in the UK, and every effort is being made to contact them so that they can be given the necessary support and space to grieve their loss.

“We’re doing all the work we can to prepare a file for the coroner to hopefully provide some answers as to how this sad event has occurred, and we still are welcoming any information via LiveChat or by calling 101 quoting incident 1654 of 30/10/2022 to help us with this work.”
