DeAndre Yedlin future up in the air as US international waits for contract U-turn

DeAndre Yedlin's future at Newcastle United could be dependant on the club's success in bringing in loan deals in the last few days of the transfer window.

The US international went public with his frustrations about a new contract when he claimed that United had not returned any of his agent's calls last week.

Steve Bruce then confirmed that there had been an issue with his work permit and he was ineligible for the game at Aston Villa on Saturday evening at Villa Park.

Yedlin has since been linked with a switch to Galatasaray in Turkey but sources at ESPN say his first choice is to remain on Tyneside.

When asked last week about Yedlin's future, Bruce told Chronicle Live: "I don't know about him being frozen out because he's been playing of late.

"So I don't where he got frozen out from.

"Look we're like everybody else, we're haemorrhaging money and I think we have to look at the whole situation of players and contracts.

"There's a lot of time to enter negotiations and we will do it in due course.

"But the market at the moment, there's no movement from anywhere because clubs are haemorrhaging so the market is very, very quiet."

Bruce played Isaac Hayden as an auxiliary right-back in the 2-1 defeat to Leeds and the winner from Jack Harrison came after poor marking in that exact area.

However, addressing United's issues at right-back this season, Bruce said: "We've got three right-backs and there's balance of the squad.

"Manquillo signed a new deal and we have Emil Krafth. So I'm sure DeAndre feels that way a little bit.

"But with the problems we've had with Manqy and Emile, both have had Covid. To be fair to DeAndre he's done alright.

"But we've got three, and if we bring somebody in we have to let somebody out the squad."

Yedlin had told CBS Sports last week: "At this moment [I want] just some clarity over whether Newcastle want me to stay or whether I can go.

"Whatever it is it's something that needs to be talked about pretty quickly because there's six months left on my contract.

"If I am going to leave Newcastle there's steps I need to take in terms of talking to other teams and things like that.

"There's been no clarity. My agent has reached out to people at Newcastle and they've responded back saying 'yes, we'll call you' and there are no calls back. That has been quite frustrating."
