CHICAGO _ Three men were killed Tuesday in three separate shootings that occurred on the city's South Side, Chicago police said.
No arrests had been made in any of the day's fatal shootings, the first recorded in the city since early Saturday, according to police.
In the latest shooting, a man in his early 20s was standing in the 9100 block of South Loomis Street in the Brainerd neighborhood around 3:15 p.m. when two gunmen emerged from a passing sedan and opened fire before fleeing, police said, citing early reports.
The victim, whose identity wasn't released, suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Around 10:30 a.m., police found a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest inside his home in the 12800 block of South Sangamon Street in the West Pullman neighborhood. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died, police said.
The day's first shooting occurred about 12:30 a.m. when a 53-year-old man was shot in the driver's seat of a vehicle parked in the 5600 block of South Perry Avenue, police said. The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Through Saturday of this year, Chicago had 554 homicides, 102 fewer than through the same time period in 2017, according to statistics maintained by the Chicago Tribune.
