NEW DELHI: On a day Delhi plummeted to another embarrassing defeat by an innings margin against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy, Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley held selectors Gagan Khoda, Mayank Sidana and Anil Bhardwaj accountable for the poor show.
In a scathing email to the DDCA board, Jaitley has asked the cricket advisory committee to intervene and decide on a course of action regarding the selection panel. TOI understands that all three selectors are in danger of losing their jobs mid-season.
Khoda and his panel have been selecting 19 or more players for each match even though they were instructed to pick just 15. "It appears that such committees are functioning without any vision and mission. The manner in which players are being selected and replaced at the drop of a hat h as become the talk of the town," Jaitley wrote while pointing out that the selectors had sent a replacement for a senior player who was supposed to be injured but ended up playing all the matches.
"It is apparent that the selectors are engaging in personal affairs more that serving Delhi cricket. They have indulged in mudslinging and street fighting instead of serving the cause of players. I am aghast at the manner in which the selections are being done and the selection committee is conducting itself. The interest and welfare of Delhi cricket is paramount," Jaitley added.
"The situation is such that we cannot name even a single player whom we perceive as a potential candidate for the national team," Jaitley wrote.
Delhi head coach Abhay Sharma lamented that there was no preparatory camp and he had been given players just a day ahead of the match. "No pool of players has been readied. There is no plan of action. We had to field part-time bowlers. There's a bowler breaking down in every match. Every pre-match practice session is like a trial for players. There's no one to look after the players," Sharma said.
