DDCA planning to start women's league this year

NEW DELHI: After bringing back a multi-day format tournament in Delhi this season, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) is planning to start a women's league.

"We currently have 165 women cricketers registered across age groups. Plans are afoot to start a league soon this year. The BCCI is planning to start the women's IPL and the ICC is also having the inaugural U-19 Women's World Cup in January. It's important that more opportunities are given to women players at the lower level," DDCA president Rohan Jaitley told TOI.

Jaitley added that the association intends to have all-women support staff for women teams.

As the DDCA has got into action to have cricket round the year, it has also put in place a database that has the performances of all players across leagues and age groups. "The two-day Challenger Trophy with 12 teams picked by the selectors is intended to create a graduation system. This will help in cutting down on discrepancies when it comes to selection. We also plan to have off-season camps till the time the DDCA academies get running," Jaitley claimed.

According to Jaitley, plans to make an indoor facility at the Arun Jaitley stadium are taking shape. "There are space constraints at the stadium. The plan is to have at least two indoor pitches. The DDCA is also looking to acquire a few grounds to build its own facilities," he said.
