Daly Cherry-Evans has put an anxious few weeks behind him in a sit down with Des Hasler on Monday, which reassured him Manly are not behind reports he's set for an early exit.
The Sea Eagles captain has two years left on a monster deal but there was speculation the club was open to giving him an early release to join an NRL rival.
Brisbane and South Sydney are considered the two main players for his signature should the 32-year-old become available.
The reports hit the Queensland skipper out of the blue and while he's still not sure where they originated, he's confident it's not within the club.
"I just had a little chat to Des then to put a lot of it to bed, internally I'm feeling a lot better where things are at," he said.
"Stephen (Humphreys, Manly CEO) and Des have publicly made a few comments today which is nice.
"Any uncertainty is quickly going away so it's nice to have those conversations with those people.
"It was a weird couple of weeks though, I didn't see that coming."
Humphreys and Hasler told News Corp on Monday they have never entertained the thought of Cherry-Evans leaving the club, saying if he wishes to play on beyond the end of his deal they want it to be with Manly.
The star halfback will be almost 35 by the time his deal expires but refuses to set a deadline to either retire or play on.
"I've watched teammates and people from other clubs think they're going to play on forever but all of a sudden things change very quickly," he said.
"Their body pulls up, their head might not want to go on any longer, but as of right now nothing has changed for me.
"My body feels pretty good, I'm still in love with the game of footy, I'm not giving it away any time soon."
But if the option was presented to him to re-sign, he would take it.
"I've still got so long to go on my contract so I'm not worried about re-signing but if that came up no doubt about it, I'd love to do it because I'd love to stay here for that extended period," he said.
"If it pops up I'll jump at it.
"I'm more looking for the security for the period I've got ... that's what I wanted more than anything."
His premiership-winning halves partner Kieran Foran was less forthcoming about his future at the club.
The 30-year-old is off-contract at the end of the season but says time will tell if he plays on.
"I'll get through the next few weeks, hopefully we can chalk up a few more wins and I'd like to be a big part of that, and then we can sit down with the club and see where things are at."
