New Delhi: Growth of cryptocurrency, changing dynamics of global finance, migration and the war on terror will dominate the agenda on the third day of the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s annual summit in Davos on Thursday.
The heads of state shaping the global narrative on key issues at the summit include Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, British Prime Minister Theresa May and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to the schedule available from the WEF. Abbasi will share his views on the fractures in the world covering issues like migration, war on terror, economic strife, energy sufficiency and Pakistan’s role in the Belt and Road Initiative. China’s Belt and Road Initiative focuses on building a string of infrastructure projects to connect Asia, Africa and Europe.
Chairman of Mahindra group Anand Mahindra and former US vice-president Al Gore will discuss how leaders can ratchet up their efforts on climate change action, while Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of Bharti Enterprises, will guide talks on “data responsibility in a fractured world”.
International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde and UK’s chancellor of the exchequer Philip Hammond will discuss the “remaking of global finance”. The session will cover the unbridled growth of cryptocurrencies, the potential decline of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency and the transformation that the international financial system is experiencing.
The role of education in socioeconomic development and workplace issues like sexual harassment are among other issues that will be covered in different sessions.
Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel peace prize winner and founder of Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, will take part in a discussion on modern slavery.
