David Turnbull wanted for £7m Aston Villa transfer as Celtic star 'lined up' for summer switch

Aston Villa are lining up a £7million bid to sign Celtic star David Turnbull, according to a report.

The midfielder only joined the Hoops last summer from Motherwell and enjoyed a brilliant debut season that has resulted in him being named in the Scotland squad for Euro 2020.

He was also named PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year after netting 10 goals in 39 appearances for the Celtic Park side.

The Scottish Sun report that Villa are keeping a close eye on him and are planning a £7m move that would see him join the English Premier League side.

Villa already have John McGinn and feel Turnbull would be a great addition to the squad to add goals from midfield.

The 21-year-old would be a surprise exit from the Celtic squad but Dean Smith hopes that the attraction of the Premier League will be enough to get him.

It would be a major blow to potentially incoming Hoops boss Eddie Howe, who would be looking to use Turnbull as one of his key players.

Celtic have already lost Scott Brown to Aberdeen, while Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie are also expected to move on.

A new goalkeeper is also likely to be needed after Vasilis Barkas' failure to impress, while Jonjoe Kenny, Diego Laxalt, Shane Duffy and Moi Elyounoussi all ended their loan spells.
