David Njoku placed on IR, Juston Burris rejoins the Browns

David Njoku’s 2019 season is over after just five quarters of football. The Browns placed the dynamic young tight end on injured reserve ahead of the Week 3 contest with the Los Angeles Rams.

Njoku broke his wrist and suffered a concussion early in the Week 2 win over the New York Jets. He was upended while catching a high throw from Baker Mayfield and landed awkwardly. Njoku will need surgery on his wrist.

He could conceivably return late in the season, but it’s much more likely we have seen the last of Njoku on the field in 2019.

To replace Njoku on the 53-man roster, the Browns brought back defensive back Juston Burris. He was waived by the Oakland Raiders on Thursday and the Browns placed a successful waiver claim on the familiar face.

Burris spent the second half of the 2018 season in Cleveland, active for four games down the stretch. He was with the Browns all summer and saw extensive action in the preseason. Burris joined the Raiders after being released by the Browns in the roster cutdown.

The big safety’s familiarity with the scheme and team is important. Injuries have ravaged the Browns secondary enough that Burris could go from the street to the starting lineup in 48 hours.
