David Moyes makes transfer claim amid West Ham’s interest in Chelsea’s Emerson

West Ham United boss David Moyes has outlined his intentions to sign a new left-back this summer amid interest in signing Emerson from Chelsea.

The Hammers currently have just one senior natural left-back in Aaron Cresswell following Arthur Masuaku’s loan exit to Turkish side Besiktas this window. This week, the Irons have been in talks over a deal to sign Emerson from their London rivals in a deal worth up to £15million.

However, having initially walked away from talks over personal terms earlier this week, football.London now understands that the Hammers have re-ignited their interest in the 28-year-old Brazil-born Italy international, although his wage demands may prove to be a stumbling block.

Asked about interest in Emerson, Moyes refused to comment on the player directly but did confirm his intentions to add another left-back to the club this summer.

“You know what you’re going to get, I wouldn’t talk about players at other clubs until they become my player,” said Moyes.

“We’d like somebody in that left-back area to help Cressy (Aaron Cresswell) and give us some more cover there, we’ve not had it, but I wouldn’t talk about any individual players from any other clubs.”

The Hammers completed their sixth summer signing on Wednesday after bringing in defender Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain for £10.1m. The German international made his debut off the bench during Thursday night’s 3-1 win over Danish side Viborg the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off qualifying round tie at the London Stadium.
