David Moyes hoping West Ham have more transfer moves to make but is making no guarantees

West Ham have so far made just one major signing in the transfer window but Hammers boss David Moyes is hopeful business is not finished just yet.

With three weeks left of the transfer window, the Scot is keen to add to his squad but would not be drawn on which players or positions he is looking at.

Alphonse Areola has arrived on an initial season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain and Moyes is pleased to have added the goalkeeper to his squad.

"There is a long way to go in the window yet," he told Sky Sports. "We have improved on the goalkeeping area, we think that it was something that we would like to do, [he adds] good competition, I think most people saw how well Areola did for Fulham so I hope that he will give us competition there and I want to make sure that we do have competition [for places] and I am hoping that we do by the end of the transfer window."

The manager is hoping to sign further players before the transfer window closes on August 31, but he added a worrying caveat for West Ham supporters.

Moyes said: "We always want competition and I am always looking to see what options there are and I hope by the end of the window we might have some more additions but you can't guarantee anything."

With a hectic fixture list that sees the Hammers involved in a potential 29 matches before the end of 2021, there is a clear need for West Ham to add to their already thin squad, particularly in the attacking areas.

West Ham's links to Tammy Abraham are continuing to persist but the deal that looks closest to being completed is that for Serbian central defender Nikola Milenkovic.

The Hammers are understood to have agreed a fee with Fiorentina and a salary with Milenkovic ahead of the potential move.

Once the signing of the defender is completed, concentration will firmly turn to a striker to provide Michail Antonio with support and competition over the coming months.

football.london understands that the club are keen to complete a number of deals before the end of the window including a striker.
