David Jason as Falstaff, anyone?

Bard times ... David Tennant as Hamlet. Photograph: Ellie Kurtz

With David Tennant about to give the world his Hamlet, I wonder: what "screen" actors would it be intriguing to see offer up their interpretations of classic roles? (Personally, I could do without anyone else giving their Hamlet to the world ever again but I suspect that I may be in a minority in that respect.)

As I've said before, unlike Jonathan Miller, I don't have a problem with actors best known for their TV or film work treading the boards; after all, most actors are better known for their work on screen rather than on stage. So since it's Friday and God knows I could do with a laugh, I'd like to hear your ideas for the most spectacular bits of stunt casting you can think of. (Not that Tennant, with his impeccable theatre pedigree, is stunt casting, of course.)

Or are there actors you'd sincerely like to see in iconic parts? Would you pay to see David Jason as Falstaff? How about Sarah Parish as Medea? Hermione Norris as Hedda Gabler or as Nora in A Doll's House? (For some reason, I can see Norris right at home in an Ibsen.)

Given the how-now-brown-cow accent she's doing in Harley Street, might you be tempted by Suranne Jones in Brief Encounter? Or what about Anna Maxwell Martin, Billie Piper and Carey Mulligan in The Three Sisters?
