David De Gea has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United, just 10 days after his move to Real Madrid collapsed.
The announcement of the deal completes a remarkable turn of events after the Spain goalkeeper was on the brink of joining Real Madrid last week before the transfer failed to go through on deadline day in Spain. Both clubs blamed each other as the necessary paperwork was not completed in time.
It has been reported that De Gea's new deal is worth £200,000 a week, an increase of more than 600 per cent on his old £35,000 a week deal. It has also been claimed that contract will include a buy-out clause of €50m (£36.5m).
De Gea's agent Mendes, who is also responsible for negotiating the contracts of Jose Mourinho, Radamel Falcao and Cristiano Ronaldo among others, arrived in Manchester yesterday in a bid to smooth relations between the club and the player.

The Spaniard, who had one year remaining on his old deal, said: "I am delighted to be starting this new chapter in my United career. I have always enjoyed playing with these great players in front of our fantastic fans. Manchester United is a special club and Old Trafford is an ideal place for me to continue to develop my career. I’m looking forward to putting a difficult summer behind me and concentrating on working hard to improve and help my teammates to be successful."
