David Charlton: The devoted dad stabbed to death in front of his fiancée

Nissan worker David was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when his life was ended.

The 25-year-old, from South Shields, encountered brother Keith and Jordan Honeyman as he walked home from the Last Orders pub on the town’s Boldon Lane with his fiancee Kirsty Claughan, on the night of December 21, 2012.

The pair, of Alice Street, South Shields had been intent on robbing a drug dealer but instead turned their violence on Mr Charlton, stabbing him eight times.

He was taken to South Tyneside General Hospital, but nothing could be done to save his life.

For the law-abiding Charltons whose lives had never been touched by violence, losing David in this way was just too much to bear.

Two years later his sister Gemma told the Chronicle: "We still can’t accept David is no longer here and for no reason.

"It might look like we are getting back to normal but we are still struggling every day. Nothing any one says or does will make it better. We have to live with this every single day.”

North East victims of knife crimes

Keith Honeyman, 20, was jailed for life with a minimum of 20 years after admitting murder while his 16-year-old brother Jordan got six years after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
