David Carr places Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins No. 6 in offensive player rankings

Houston Texans receiver DeAndre Hopkins took a step up in recent power rankings after the team’s 27-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3.

According to NFL Network analyst David Carr, Hopkins rose one spot to No. 6 overall in the former quarterback’s offensive player power rankings.

Hopkins made some big plays to boost the Texans‘ second-half comeback. It doesn’t matter who’s on Hopkins, the Texans receiver is always around the ball and giving his offense a chance, which is exactly what he did Sunday with a 34-yard catch-and-run to set up the go ahead touchdown late in the third quarter.

Hopkins caught a team-high six passes for 67 yards, which were third-highest behind receiver Kenny Stills’ 89 and tight end Jordan Akins’ 73.

Some of the success that Akins and Stills had against the Chargers could be attributed to the Hopkins factor. Those targets had opportunities with the attention Hopkins commanded, and they took advantage of them.

On the season, Hopkins has caught 19 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns on 28 targets through three starts. The Texans are 2-1 for the first time since 2016 and have a home date with the Carolina Panthers at NRG Stadium for Week 4.
