David Bowie's son Duncan Jones thanks supporters for 'kind words and thoughts' since father's passing

Duncan Jones has thanked supporters for their “incredibly kind words and thoughts” during the couple of weeks since his father David Bowie passed away.

Bowie died aged 69 on 10 January following a private 18-month cancer illness. A statement through the singer’s official social media accounts said he died peacefully “surrounded by friends and family”.

Shortly after this, Jones, 44, confirmed his father’s passing by sharing a photograph of himself as a child on his Dad’s shoulders, writing: “Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.”

On Saturday, Jones posted a message to thank people for their “incredibly kind words and thoughts,” and said he will be “easing [his] way back into Twitter.”

Jones is a film director whose 2009 film Moon saw him win a BAFTA, he is the eldest son of Bowie and his first wife Angie, from whom he is reportedly estranged. Bowie had a daughter Alexandria in 2000 with his second wife the supermodel Iman who he was married to for 23 years.

A week ago Jones shared a poignant open letter written to his father from palliative care doctor, Mark Taubert.

The article credited Bowie, his music and death as encouraging the doctor and a patient with advanced cancer to talk about “numerous weighty subjects that are not always straightforward to discuss with someone facing their own demise”.

In the wake of Bowie’s death, his album Blackstar which was released just a  few days before he died, has topped the UK and US Album charts.
