David Bowie dead: Church organist performs moving Life on Mars tribute to singer

A church organist gave a moving tribute to the late David Bowie by performing a rendition of his song Life on Mars.

Nicholas Freestone, the organ scholar at St Albans Cathedral in Hertfordshire, said it was "rather humbling" to read the comments on his performance.

The video has been viewed by over one million people on Facebook and has been shared over 48,000 times.

One commentor, Val Williams, said: "Nicholas Freestone, that was utterly breathtaking. I have a lump in my throat the size of a rock and my eyes are leaking. Of all the tributes I've seen today for David Bowie yours was glorious. Simple, heartfelt and unique. Thank you."

Another, Pat Fowler, wrote: "Nicholas Freestone. Sir that was stunning. Marvellous tribute, wonderfully played. A great tribute to David Bowie and a great tribute showing how diverse his music is. Thank you. Sent chills down my spine."

In response to over 2,000 overwhelmingly positive comments, Mr Freestone wrote: "I'm the organist playing this - it's rather humbling to read your comments. Thanks everyone for sharing! x"
