David Beckham has made feelings clear on Lionel Messi after Inter Miami given transfer boost

There are still question marks over where Lionel Messi's future lies.

Many, including his club Paris Saint Germain, expect Messi to extend with the French club until 2024, but according to Marca this seems unlikely. The Argentinian apparently wants to take a new step in his career and this could be across the Atlantic.

Late last year The Athletic reported that Inter Miami were leading the race to sign Messi, though a lot could have changed after the Argentinian won the World Cup. However the MLS club likely still remains an option.

Miami have already replaced Gonzalo Higuain, who retired last season, with striker Josef Martinez but it should be noted that to acquire the attacker the MLS side did not use up their final designated player spot.

Messi already owns property in Miami and has reportedly been in contact with the club's owner David Beckham for many years. And the former Manchester United midfielder has spoken about the possibility of the seven-time Balon d'Or winner moving across the pond in the past.

Beckham told the Miami Herald back in February: "I've always said I want the best players in our club and playing in our shirt because there's a certain expectation.

"Unfortunately, sometimes it can be a bad thing. But most of the time it's a good thing. When I first started this project, people were saying, 'This guy is coming, that guy is coming, [Cristiano] Ronaldo is coming, Messi's coming'. At the end of the day, we need to win, whether it's with the young kids or stars."

Miami reached the playoffs last season but will be hoping to go further than the first round in their next campaign.
