David Beckham builds a beehive and plans to make honey in his Cotswolds home

David Beckham has taken up an unusual new hobby during lockdown - beekeeping.

The former footballer, 45, showed his Instagram followers that he has been setting up a wooden beehive while staying at his country residence in the Cotswolds, so that he can make his own honey in the future.

In a clip shared on his Instagram account, recorded by his wife Victoria, the star hammered nails into place as he assembled wooden frames to slot into the intricate contraption.

“And David has decided to start building… beehives,” the fashion designer, 46, explained from behind the camera, before showing viewers the wooden structure, which appeared to be in its early stages.

“Is that your new project darling?” she asked him, prompting David to reply with “It is” as he surveyed his handiwork so far.

“We’ll be very happy when we’ve got our own honey,” he then added.

He captioned the video: “New project… watch this space.”

David has been spending the lockdown period at his family’s Cotswolds home along with Victoria and their three younger children, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15, and Harper, eight.

The sporting star appears to be adapting well to country life, regularly sharing photos of himself and his family enjoying walks in the surrounding fields and hills.

Speaking in April, he also revealed that they have been delivering care packages to vulnerable elderly people who have been shielding during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Beckhams also made “friendship calls” to the elderly as part of an Age UK initiative to prevent loneliness during lockdown.
