Davey Grant clobbers Jonathan Martinez with looping haymaker at UFC Fight Night 187

Eight years after he entered the UFC as a submission specialist, Davey Grant is carving out a reputation as a knockout artist.

For as many times in two appearances, Grant (11-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC) picked up a nasty victory with strikes in the second half of the fight. At UFC Fight Night 187 on Saturday, Grant clobbered Jonathan Martinez with a vicious haymaker that floored him. After a few follow-up shots, the fight was stopped by referee Chris Tognoni at 3:03 of Round 2.

A runner-up on “The Ultimate Fighter 18,” Grant had a rocky start to his UFC career, which included spaced-out appearances and a 1-3 record over his first four fights. Since November 2019, however, Grant has gone 3-0 with two finishes.

As for Martinez (13-4 MMA, 4-3 UFC), the loss snaps a two-fight winning streak. UFC Fight Night 187 marked the first time he had been stopped in his professional career.

UFC Fight Night 187 took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streamed on ESPN+.
