We got some major quarterback news on Monday afternoon — it just wasn’t regarding the quarterback who had us all on the edge of our seats as we awaited a decision.
The Las Vegas Raiders have found the replacement for Derek Carr as they’ve added former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on a three-year deal. The move reunites Garoppolo — who led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance as a starting quarterback but has battled injuries for much of the last two seasons — with Josh McDaniels, his former offensive coordinator in New England.
It also pairs him with arguably the NFL’s best wideout in Davante Adams, who is coming off his second-straight 1,500-yard receiving campaign. Adams, however, didn’t seem too pleased with the franchise’s change of direction.
“If we haven’t talked in the last 3 weeks don’t hit me about this (expletive),” Adams said in an Instagram Story on Monday. “Thanks.”
It’s unclear exactly what Adams is referring to. He could be frustrated with the addition of Garoppolo, who was better when healthy than Carr last season but also doesn’t necessarily raise the team’s ceiling considerably.
It could also have something to do with the NFL’s current elephant in the room, Aaron Rodgers. As of 6 p.m. ET on Monday, Rodgers remains a Green Bay Packer. But a deal is reportedly in place with the New York Jets, pending Rodgers’ approval.
Perhaps Adams’ frustrations have more to do with the Raiders reportedly not being a player for Rodgers, with whom Adams played the first eight years of his career.
We can only speculate what exactly Adams was trying to say here, but it’s clear that one of the league’s best players is not happy.
UPDATE:
Adams later took to Twitter to clarify that he was referring to people reaching out to him looking for an inside scoop rather than venting frustrations with the signing of Garoppolo, for whom he voiced his support.
So, it seems that all is OK in Sin City, at least for now.
