Date you should put your central heating on as temperatures drop

The weather has recently taken a turn for the worst with summer looking like it's officially over.

Yesterday (September 24), huge hailstones could be seen falling from the sky in Liverpool following a freak storm.

Huge bangs of thunder could also be heard leaving many people across the city stunned, despite it only being September.

With it become darker in the mornings and freezing at night, you might be tempted to reach for the heating dial.

But according to energy experts, most people won't be switching on their central heating just yet.

Last year, George Chalmers at Migrate told the Mirror that October 17 was to be the date where Britain finally caved and dialled up the thermostat.

George said that 40% of people were delaying switching on their heating on due to the cost of it - despite the colder weather.

But that was only for the typical bill payer. Those on pre-payment meters were expected to hold out for almost four weeks longer - until November 1.

However, it seems that some people in the region have already decided it's too cold to wait until October.

One Twitter user wrote: "Time to put the heating on. Hello depressing season."

Julie tweeted: "Balls to it. The fire is on!"

And Lynne said: "I’ve had to put the heating on this morning people. And I’m livid. It’s still September ffs. But COLD."
