Date confirmed for Sunderland's Carabao Cup first round tie against Hull City

Sunderland's Carabao Cup date with Hull City at the Stadium of Light has now been confirmed.

The Tigers will visit the Stadium of Light for the first round tie on Saturday, September 5, with kick-off at 3pm.

The game was always expected to take place on that date and at that time, but confirmation had to wait until Sky Sports had made their TV picks for the first round.

Sky will be showing Barrow's game at Derby County, and Sheffield Wednesday's game at Walsall, on September 5, along with the all-Championship affair between Brentford and Wycombe Wanderers which will be the first game to be played at the Bees' new Brentford Community Stadium home, the following day.

Sunderland's match against Hull takes place a week before the Black Cats kick-off their League One campaign against Bristol Rovers on Wearside.

Phil Parkinson's side played their first pre-season friendly yesterday, winning 3-1 against Gateshead at the International Stadium, and will play further warm-up games against Carlisle United on Tuesday, and Harrogate Town next weekend.

All games will be staged behind-closed-doors until at least October, as a result of Government restrictions due to the Covid-19 situation.
