A suspected drink driver made a 'dodgy turn' then stalled the car right in front of police, officers said.
Greater Manchester Police's traffic unit posted a dashcam video of the incident in Bolton on Sunday morning.
Officers were on High Street in Farnworth waiting for a seized van to be recovered and taken away at the time.
The motorist came to a halt just yards from their GMP vehicle.
Footage on Twitter shows the moment the driver sees the police car - then tries to turn in the road.
The officers waiting at the van simply drove forward a matter of feet and the hatchback was stopped.
No further details have been revealed.
But the driver only had a provisional licence, GMP said, and was on the road without insurance.

The car was ultimately seized.
It's not known whether the driver was a man or woman.
A roadside breath test gave a reading of 116, the force said.
The alcohol limit is 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

Writing on Twitter, GMP Traffic Unit said: "Sat waiting for recovery of a seized van High Stile Street, Farnworth, and a drink driver comes to say hello with a dodgy turn before stalling right in front of police!!!
"Blew reading of 116!!! #nonefortheroad #fatal5 oh yea.... prov licence and no insurance = car seized."
No information on an arrest was given. The M.E.N have contacted GMP for more details.
