Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Thiago - Liverpool FC injury latest ahead of Man City fixture

Manchester City will be going in search of their first Premier League win over Liverpool in more than two years when the two sides meet at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

City, who were beaten 1-0 by the Merseysiders when they met at Anfield back in October, will be determined to pick up where they left off prior to the international break and reduce the gap, even if only temporarily, on leaders Arsenal. The Blues are currently eight points behind the Gunners at the summit, meaning they have work to do if they are to retain their title crown.

Although Liverpool have not offered City the title battle this season that they have in recent years, Pep Guardiola will know that his side will be in for a stern test against last season's FA Cup winners. Liverpool are currently seven points shy of the top four, meaning they have a point to prove if they are to qualify for next season's Champions League.

The Anfield outfit have experienced a hugely underwhelming campaign, something that was summarised perfectly with their shock 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth earlier this month. Injuries, however, have not helped Jurgen Klopp this season, with his side suffering plenty of them throughout the campaign.

With that in mind, MEN Sport has taken a close look at the latest Liverpool injury news ahead of their clash with City this weekend.

Calvin Ramsay

Recruited from Scottish side Aberdeen last summer, right-back Ramsay is set to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury. It was confirmed last month that he had undergone surgery and will play no further part in Liverpool's campaign.

The 19-year-old had played just twice prior to his injury blow. His only start came in Liverpool's slender Carabao Cup third round win over Derby County in November.

Thiago Alcantara

Thiago is also expected to miss Saturday's clash with City. He has been sidelined since early February with a hip flexor injury.

The former Bayern Munich man, who has made 93 appearances for Liverpool since joining the club in September 2020, has played 24 times this season. It is unclear when he will be back.

Luis Diaz

After several months on the sidelines because of a knee problem, Diaz could make his return to action against City, giving Klopp a significant boost ahead of the run-in. He has been unavailable since the start of October and has been sorely missed.

Although he is highly unlikely to start at the Etihad because of the length of time he has been sidelined, he could make the matchday squad. Klopp will almost certainly provide an update on the Colombia international when he faces the media later this week.

Darwin Nunez

It's unclear whether or not Nunez will be available for the clash with City. The versatile forward pulled out of the Uruguay squad after suffering an ankle issue in Liverpool's 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid on March 15.

The former Benfica ace, who has scored 14 goals in his debut campaign at Anfield, is reportedly due to report back to Liverpool's Melwood training ground this week and will be assessed. It remains to be seen if he will be involved on Saturday.

Cody Gakpo

Gakpo withdrew from the Netherlands squad ahead of their European Championship qualifier against France on Friday night through illness. A virus swept its way through the camp ahead of the game, meaning a handful of players had to pull out.

However, it remains to be seen if he will feature against Gibraltar on Monday evening, having been recalled to the squad. Should he play any part in that fixture, he is likely to be included against City. At the time of writing, it's a case of wait and see.
