Darius Danesh: Family of Scottish singer may face two month wait for cause of death

The family of iconic Scottish singer Darius Campbell Danesh could face an agonising two-month wait to find out his cause of death.

News of the former Pop Idol star's death broke earlier this week after his loved ones shared that he was found in his apartment room at the age of 41. Pronounced dead on August 11, tributes from all over the world flooded in for the star, with the local police department confirming there had been no suspicious circumstances.

Speaking in their statement, Darius's family said at the time: "The local police department have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue. We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother."

However, the family could now face a further eight weeks before understanding his true cause of death, with the results of a toxicology report set to take some time.

The Record reports that fans were quick to notice it was unusual for Darius, who studied in Edinburgh, to be living in Minnesota and clocked that his apartment was in close proximity to the Mayo Clinic’s 1,265-bed Saint Marys Campus. It has now been reported that Darius used Gerard Butler's girlfriend's name to book the room where he was found dead.

The Colourblind singer was good pals with the fellow Scots actor, and the two were even pictured enjoying a dog walk together just weeks before his death. However, when checking into the apartment in Rochester Minnesota, Darius used Gerard's partner's name Morgan Brown as a guise, according to Mail Online.

Using false names is common for celebrities to not attract unwanted attention, with Darius appearing to use Morgan's name to conceal his identity when booking. In one of the final snaps of the late star - taken just weeks before he died - Darius could be seen enjoying a walk with the P.S I Love You actor near Gerard's Malibu home.

Local police in the area said there were "no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances" and said they are awaiting toxicology results. A police spokesman said: "The investigation into the cause of his death is still pending. There is no known threat to the public."

Prior to his death, Darius had been staying at The Berkman apartments, billed as Rochester’s premier address for “elegant short-term and long-term furnished suites and residential living”. Most tenants who live at the block of flats work or are being treated at the Mayo Clinic nearby.
