EastEnders star Danny Dyer said he is still in “negotiations” about his character will be written out of the soap.

The 44-year-old who is quitting Albert Square after a decade of playing landlord Mick Carter, said: “There’s two months left and I didn’t take this decision lightly, I am still in debate how we are going to end, there are still negotiations how I think it should happen, and what the powers at be think should happen.

“It maybe be that we never see Mick again but it will be an epic ending, I think I want to put a full stop on the job. It has been an amazing 10 years that I have had, it is a third of my career but I am ready to move on.”

Speaking before the British Soap Awards, he also praised his co-star Gillian Wright for her performance as Jean Slater whose bi-polar diagnosis has powered some of soap’s most hard-hitting storylines.

He said: “Gillian never makes a mistake, she is so invested in her character and what she does and she is one of the elite for me, just on it, really thinks about everything she does and she deserves to be honoured.

“Bipolar and mental health, it’s going about, I think we’re all suffering from it, I am really proud of some of the stuff we have done this year, it’s been tough, we took a few knocks but I hope Gillian comes to the front and nicks a couple.”

Wright and Lacey Turner, who plays her daughter Stacey Slater, won best on-screen partnership at the event in Hackney.
