Danish media react to Rangers as Brondby 'given European lesson' by Steven Gerrard's rampant side

Danish media could only hold their hands up as Brondby were swept aside by Rangers at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard's side took their first three points in Europa League Group A to leave them with hope of reeling in Sparta Prague and advancing to the knockout stage.

In front of a packed Ibrox, Leon Balogun headed home from a James Tavernier corner to silence the rowdy visiting support.

And the result was sealed when Kemar Roofe bundled home from close range, the goal allowed after VAR confirmed there was no offside.

Here's what the Danish media made of their champions being beaten by an impressive Rangers.

Ekstrabladet described it as "a defeat that was fully deserved after a showdown where Brondby did not have a single shot on target. And Brondby now have zero goals after three games".

Noting that Rangers "could easily have scored more than the two goals", they felt the visitors "truly had the margins on their side" as Gerrard's men struck the woodwork in both halves.

Their match report continues: "The 1600 Brondby fans did far better than the players on the field.

"Because there was not much that went right for Niels Frederiksen's troops at Ibrox.

"Brondby's lack of quality on the big stage was exposed against an opponent who is far from belonging to the European elite, but in return has a huge fighting spirit when they take the field.

"Brondby meet Rangers on November 4 at Brondby Stadium. Here, Niels Frederiksen's team is forced to win if they are to have any hope of having something to play for in the last two group matches.

"Another defeat to the Scottish champions would make it hard to believe in anything other than a European exit in December after the away game against Sparta Prague."

Jyllands Posten headlined their match report 'Rangers give goalless Brondby a new European lesson'.

They acknowledge: "Brondby have ended up in a very difficult group. Rangers, who lost their first two games, proved to be a level above the Danish visitors at a well-attended Ibrox.

"That Brondby would have a hard time against teams like Lyon, Rangers and Sparta Prague is no surprise. But it must raise a bit of concern that the team has created so few chances in its first three games."

Andreas Laudrup of TV2 said: "It must be said that Rangers were a significantly better team than Brondby on the day. Rangers delivered well and played a good match, and Brondby couldn't shut them down.

"In terms of points, it may be as we had expected. The challenge lies in the fact that they have not scored yet. That's problematic. You cannot win a match without scoring."

Meanwhile, Tipsbladet described it as "three easy points" for the hosts.
