Danish media issue strong verdict on Leeds United man for display in Australia defeat

The Danish media have criticised Leeds United defender Rasmus Kristensen for his performance in Denmark's 1-0 defeat to Australia. The Danes were eliminated in the group stages of the tournament following today's loss in what is a major disappointment given their run to the semi-finals in the EUROs in 2021.

Kristensen started for the third consecutive match for Denmark on Wednesday but was hauled off at half time in place of Alexander Bah with the score at 0-0. The 25-year-old has played as a right wing back in the previous two matches but returned as a more natural full-back against Australia, a position he has began his career at Leeds at.

However, it appears the media in Denmark were less than impressed with Kristensen's outing and believe he was right to be hooked at the break. Here is what they had to say:

Ekstra Bladet gave Kristensen a one-star rating for his performance and wrote: “Nissen was nowhere near his beautiful performance against Kylian Mbappé and France.

“Where did the energy go? The desire to come first? Devoid of presence, he never found his feet, and Kasper Hjulmand chose to take him out at half-time and replace him with Alexander Bah.”

Danish outlet B.T. also handed him a one-star rating, saying: “With the surfboard under his arm, he fumbled up and down the flank in search of an Australian who wanted to join him on the beach, but the Aussies were in no way interested in inviting the Dane out on anything other than a desert hike, and that upset Rasmus Nissen.

“He was ripped off in the break.”
