Danielle Collins produced a memorable comeback to overcome Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and reach the Australian Open semi-final.

The 25-year-old, who stunned no. 2 seed Angelique Kerber in the fourth round, recovered from a nightmare first set to win 2-6, 7-6, 6-1.

The fairytale continues for the world number 35, who had never got past the first round of a Grand Slam before the tournament in Melbourne.

While she may have avoided the likes of Serena Williams in the draw, Pavlyuchenkova had produced a few shocks of her own in the preceding rounds.

And it seemed the Russian would be too strong for Collins - who only turned professional three years ago - when she took a 6-2 lead.

But Collins fought back in the second set going 5-2 up after securing a crucial break.

The inexperienced American nearly squandered the lead, allowing Pavlyuchenkova back into the set at 5-5, before eventually prevailing 7-5 to force a final set showdown.

That's where she came into her own, powering past the unseeded 27-year-old 6-1 to seal an incredible comeback and a first-ever semi-final place.

She will face either Petra Kvitova or Ashleigh Barty in the last four.
