Daniel Sturridge sends farewell message to Liverpool fans ahead of Anfield exit

Daniel Sturridge has said an emotional goodbye to Liverpool after seven years at the club.

The former England striker issued a post on social media to personally thank the fans, his team-mates, his manager and coaches - and all the staff at Melwood.

And in his statement he insisted he will forever be Liverpool , even though he always knew “that one day we’d have to break up.”

The striker, who signed from Chelsea back in 2013, said: “What can I say...It’s been one hell of a ride at this beautiful club. We were together for seven seasons and took a lil break in between.

Daniel Sturridge was part of the Liverpool squad that recently won the Champions League (PA)

“We had a lot of high and lows together but through it all remained together knowing that one day we’d have to break up. That time is now…”

In particular, Sturridge suggested he has learnt from his team-mates and the bond they have, and that has made him a better person.

And he also offered a small insight into one of the secrets of Liverpool’s success.

“To my team-mates old and new, thank you for the memories the banter was unreal,” he said.

“You all played a part in making me the man I am today. This isn’t a goodbye cause Lord knows we’ll stay in touch no matter where I am so speak soon.

“To the current group of players just letting you know that Sturr crazy sauces will still be available next season so don’t stress yourselves out the lucky sauce will be back!”

Sturridge saved a special message for the incredible supporters who made Madrid so memorable, and he added: “I wanna say to the fans I love y’all.

“I’m so happy I was a part of the clubs sixth Champions League win because all the fans have deserved it for all the support they’ve given me and club during my tenure.

“I wish you all the best in the future and more success for the club. Thank you for the memories.”

Sturridge will be a free agent on July 1. He has suggested he will wait before deciding which step to take next in his career, though it has been suggested he could play in the States.
