Daniel Levy's promise to Antonio Conte as he prepares to take over at Tottenham

Antonio Conte has been promised major funds to persuade him to become Tottenham's next manager.

And Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is also insisting they will fight to keep Harry Kane as they look to pull off a major coup by tempting former Chelsea boss Conte to White Hart Lane.

Conte 's major concerns have been surrounding the state of Tottenham's squad, the club being able to compete in the Premier League, funds being available to strengthen and also doubts around Kane's long term future.

Levy is prepared to spend this summer to strengthen the squad while Conte would also demand a huge contract to take over which could see him up to £15m-a-year.

But the big sticking point will be around Kane as the England captain is absolutely determined to quit White Hart Lane this summer - no matter who the manager is.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United are all interested but Levy is determined not to sell a player who has three years left on his contract.

Tottenham had been trying to get Mauricio Pochettino before moving towards Conte and Paris Saint Germain blocked their attempts to bring back the manager Levy sacked 18 months ago.

But even Pochettino returning would not have stopped Kane's determination to move to a club to win trophies.

Conte is up for the challenge after extensive talks - but the biggest concerns have been around the squad.

Levy accepts the squad needs a major overhaul with players in several positions required to replenish an ageing squad and the hope is that will change the mood among players like Kane but also with the supporters.

Tottenham are hoping a deal can be reached with Conte and his advisers and that could also see former Juventus executive Fabio Paratici move to White Hart Lane to help oversee potential transfers this summer.

Spurs want to strengthen in central defence, right back and in midfield which will require a big spend.
