Daniel Levy already knows what to do with potential Harry Kane Tottenham transfer windfall

Tottenham's next manager could potentially have quite a bit of money to play with ahead of the 2021/22 season if Harry Kane's time in N17 finally comes to an end.

Always in the headlines every summer regarding a move away, reports on Monday evening claimed that the player has now told the club that he wants to move on.

Perhaps not a shock to many given his desire to win trophies and the team's poor form over the past two seasons, there will certainly be interest in the 27-year-old given the impressive numbers he has registered since breaking into the Tottenham team.

Linked with the likes of Man City, Manchester United and Chelsea, there may not be as many clubs as expected who make a move for the frontman due to the vast majority of sides having limited money at present due to the coronavirus pandemic.

While clubs may set their sights on signing Kane before the new season begins, Daniel Levy will want top dollar for his main man and that means offers of around £150million may have to come in just to open negotiations with the Lilywhites.

Tottenham quite simply cannot afford to lose the England captain due to what he offers the team but they may have to plan for life without him if they receive an offer they simply cannot refuse.

It wouldn't just be a case of replacing Kane with another striker as he has demonstrated how important he is to the team this season in terms of creating chances after registering 16 assists in all competitions.

Rewind the clock back eight years and Tottenham were in a similar position with Real Madrid setting their sights on Gareth Bale in a club-record move.

The Spanish giants in the end got their way as Levy decided to part with the club's prized asset at the start of September 2013 for a whopping £85million.

Quite clearly irreplaceable due to what he offered the team, as is the current case with Kane, Spurs, then managed by Andre Villas-Boas, brought in the 'Magnificent Seven' that summer for a total of £109m.

Strengthening all across the squad with the seven new arrivals, Tottenham believed that replacing their main man with a number of signings rather than a couple of standout players was the way to go.

Unfortunately things just didn't turn out as initially envisaged.

Striker Roberto Soldado, signed for £26m, was a huge flop and departed two years later for less than half the price Spurs had paid for him after only managing 16 goals in 76 games across all competitions.

Vlad Chiriches, Etienne Capoue and Paulinho would also depart in the summer of 2015 with Tottenham again making a loss on the trio, before Nacer Chadli headed for West Brom one year later as the club made a £6m profit.

Tottenham did also make money on Christian Eriksen, the undoubted success story from the summer of 2013, but Spurs only made a profit of £5.5m as the Dane, who was valued at around £100m at his peak, left for Inter Milan with only six months left on his contract.

Erik Lamela is the sole survivor of the 'Magnificent Seven' but there is a strong chance his time in N17 could finally come to an end this summer as he gets set to enter the final year of his deal.

Appearing to be a good idea at the time as Spurs brought in the septet looking to build on finishing fifth the previous year, many fans see the club's transfer business as a waste of the Bale money due to the very few success stories from the seven who signed on in his place.

Potentially in the same situation again this summer if Kane moves on, Levy and the club will have a much better idea of what to do and what to avoid given their previous transfer woes.

Rather than going all out and bringing a number of players in, it's clear to see that Spurs would have to replace the England captain with a top striker and a creative player to help try and cover the goals and assists he records on a regular basis.

All Tottenham fans will be praying that they don't have to replace their main man this summer despite the growing speculation, but, if they do, the club must get it right or they could well suffer the consequences as a result.
