Daniel James' proposed £15million transfer to Manchester United is close to being completed.
MEN Sport understands Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will make the Welshman his first signing since taking the United job after James has undergone a medical which is due to take place at Carrington today (Thursday).
James has been training with Ryan Giggs' Wales squad this week ahead of their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Croatia and Hungary.
And although sources close to the Wales team would not comment on speculation that the 21-year-old had been granted permission to travel to United's training complex late on Wednesday night, it is understood a transfer will be soon be completed.
Personal terms had already been agreed last month, though the death of James' father Kevan meant United and Wales both gave the player time to grieve. The fee is believed to be in the region of £15million, with add-ons and an announcement could be made in the next few days.
Solskjaer wants to sign young British players with scope for improvement.
And after an impressive season for both Wales and Swansea in which James scored on his international debut and impressed in a thrilling FA Cup tie against Manchester City , the winger fits the bill.
He can play on either flank or through the middle and scored six goals in all competitions last season, laying on seven assists.
He could make his non-competitive United debut in the first game of the Reds' pre-season tour to Australia, China and Singapore against Perth Glory on July 13.
James is expected to rejoin the Wales squad in time for their game against Croatia in Osijek on Saturday afternoon. Giggs' squad are due to fly out to Croatia today (Thursday) ahead of the qualifying contest.
