Daniel James has heart set on Man United move with Swansea deal expected to be agreed imminently

Manchester United are locked in talks with Swansea over Daniel James as Ole Gunnar Solskjær closes in on the first signing of his summer overhaul.

The two clubs are still to agree a fee for the Wales winger, with United hoping a deal will kick off a major spending spree at Old Trafford.

But with Swansea refusing to let the 21-year-old go on the cheap, they have so far rebuffed United’s attempts to pick up a bargain.

A deal of between £15-20m is expected to be reached for a player who only has a year left on his contract - but negotiations have been ongoing since the end of the season.

Despite claims personal terms have been agreed between James and United, Swansea are determined to get close to their full valuation for a player who is also wanted by Leeds and Brighton.

But with James understood to have his heart set on a move to United – and Solskjær eager for a swift resolution – a deal is expected imminently.

James, who can play right across the front, could help to fill the club’s longstanding problem position on the right of attack.

Solskjær has asked executive vice chairman Ed Woodward to complete his summer business by the start of July when the players return for pre-season training.

He wants to bring in as many as five new signings - but that figure could grow, depending on who leaves during this window.

The Norwegian intends to strengthen in every department, but fears he will miss out on top target Jadon Sancho, who looks set to stay at Borussia Dortmund.

Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan Bissaka is his first choice target at right-back, while Sean Longstaff is one of a host of midfielders he’s looking at along with Idrissa Gueye, Bruno Fernandes and Declan Rice.
