Daniel James gives verdict on Manchester United manager Solskjaer

Daniel James has heaped praise on Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for believing in him during his first season at the club.

The Wales international moved to Old Trafford during last summer's transfer window, joining from Swansea for a fee of £15million.

After making a goal scoring start to his United career against Chelsea, James has been a regular in the first team, making 37 appearances in all competitions, scoring four and creating seven.

The 22-year-old has experienced ups and downs over the course of the campaign and admitted he is grateful for Solskjaer's support even if he performs badly.

"He's been unbelievable with me, I'll always thank him for that," he told NBC Sport.. "From the first time I met him, I never expected him to have that belief in me.

"Playing me from the first day of the season, believing in me even when things might not have gone so well for me.

"He's always kept believing in me and he's got a great backroom staff behind him.

"He's always been great with me and picks me up when I'm a bit down which he does with every player so I do thank him for that."

James was a standout performer for Swansea in the Championship last year, his first season in senior football, and claims he didn't expect to feature as regularly as he's done this year.

He added: "I think when I spoke to the manager it was always about what I can do.

"I was coming in not expecting to be in the squad at the start of the season and start as many games as I had now.

"I think it came down to working hard and the manager trusting me, he didn't have to but he did.

"It was just about what can I do to make sure he's trusts me on the pitch.

"Game by game I was just enjoying it more and believing in myself. The manager give me that belief and it helped me a lot.

"I think at the start it was about enjoying it, pre-season with the lads, but this year has been a big stepping stone for me."
