Dani Alves lifts the lid on the real reasons for his controversial Barcelona exit

Dani Alves has lifted the lid on the off-field issues which led to his surprise Barcelona exit back in 2016.

The Brazilian right-back garnered a reputation as one of the best players in his position in the world during his eight years at the Nou Camp.

He made a total of 391 appearances for the team in all competitions and helped his side win six La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues.

But Alves eventually left the club as a free agent to join Juventus, and after a year in Italy and a two-season spell at Paris Saint-Germain he is now back in his native country playing for Sao Paulo.

The 37-year-old recently hosted an Instagram Q&A, and when asked about his departure from Barcelona he took aim at club chiefs who saw him lose faith in the project in Catalonia.

"I did not believe in the leaders who were in charge in that moment," Alves said. "Later it was proven that I was right. As I was the first person who said it, they called me crazy, but, as always...I am a good crazy!"

Since then there has been huge upheaval at Barcelona, with Joan Laporta replacing Josep Bartomeu as president, but the club are still in a huge amount of debt and the future of their talisman Lionel Messi is far from clear.

Meanwhile, Alves also spoke about a number of other topics, one of which was debating whether or not Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo was the greater player of all time.

And he replied by posting a picture of himself celebrating a goal along with Messi with the caption: "Despite the greatness of the two, a picture is worth a thousand words."
