A dangerous Dublin crime gang have been stung following a huge Garda operation which saw one man arrested and two machine guns seized.
A raid of a premises located in Dublin's north inner city took place on Thursday evening for hours where the two firearms and a large quantity of ammunition were found.
One man, 48, was arrested by Gardai during the investigation and is currently being detained at Mountjoy Garda Station.
Speaking last night after the successful hit, Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll, who heads Organised and Serious Crime, said it was their priority to take lethal firearms off the streets.
He said: "An Garda Síochána, through Organised and Serious Crime and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau in particular, continues in it's unrelenting determination to take lethal firearms off the streets of Ireland in its ongoing efforts to keep people safe”.
A Garda spokesman added: "On Thursday, 16th July 2020, in the course of investigations being undertaken relating to organised and serious crime, personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) searched a premises located in Dublin’s north inner city.
"In the course of this search, two firearms, believed to be machine guns, and a quantity of ammunition were located and seized."
He added: "One man, aged 48, was arrested in the course of this investigation.
"He was conveyed to Mountjoy Garda Station, where he remains detained, pursuant to the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939/98, as amended."
