Dane Scarlett: Tottenham expected to pursue loan deal after young striker signs new four-year contract

Tottenham have agreed a new contract with highly-rated young striker Dane Scarlett.

The academy graduate, 18, has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal in north London that is due to run until the summer of 2026.

“I’m really proud and excited to see what the future holds,” Scarlett said. “It’s something I’ve been working towards this year and now it’s happened, I’m just happy to be here and still enjoying my football.

“As long as I’m still focused and keep working hard, then everything will pan out for me... I’ve got bigger, stronger and I’m mentally stronger, understanding more what it takes to really break through into the first team.”

Spurs are now expected to pursue a loan move for Scarlett, who became the youngest senior debutant in Tottenham history under Jose Mourinho when he came off the bench aged 16 years and 247 days in the Europa League victory over Bulgarian side Ludogorets Razgrad in November 2020.

That broke the record previously set by John Bostock, though was later surpassed by teenage midfielder Alfie Devine.

Scarlett, prolific for the Under-18s, has made nine further first-team appearances for Tottenham since then, including seven last season - predominantly in the cup competitions.

His only Premier League outing under Antonio Conte to date came as a late replacement for Heung-min Son in the 4-0 win over Leeds at Elland Road in February.

Scarlett represents England at youth level and will form part of the squad for this summer’s U19 European Championship in Slovakia, having notched six goals in five appearances during qualifying for the tournament.
